Billionaire Mark Cuban encourages fans to use Dogecoin as a means of payment

The Dallas Mavericks, the professional basketball team, owned by billionaire Mark Cuban, is giving away e-gift cards to crypto fans as part of the newly launched “Cryptomania” campaign for Dogecoin adoption.

Billionaire Mark Cuban Drives Further Dogecoin Adoption

From now on, anyone who purchases at least $150 worth of Mavs merchandise in a single transaction with one of the supported cryptocurrencies will be able to get $25 back. The campaign is expected to last until the end of this year.

In early March, the Mavs became the first NBA team to use Dogecoin as a payment method, allowing users to buy tickets and shop with the DOGE memecoin. This comes two years after the team started accepting Bitcoin with little success. In April 2020, Cuban revealed that Mavs had only accumulated $130 in the world's largest cryptocurrency, which he believes underscores its main adoption problem.

“We're taking Bitcoin now — please, buy everything with Bitcoin. I'm fine with that. I think we brought in $130. That's all the Bitcoin I own right now,” Cuban said.

As AZCoin News reported, Cuban said that Dogecoin is the most powerful cryptocurrency because of its community, a claim that resonates with none other than Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Earlier this month, Mavs also announced that those who pay with DOGE will receive a special discount to drive even more coin meme adoption.

But Cuban has faced backlash from the community after tweeting that his crypto holdings are lower than $494, clearly a change for the billionaire.

At the time of writing, DOGE is trading at $0.28, having recorded a 2% drop in the past 24 hours.
