Microsoft wins US patent for 'ledger-independent token service'

The new Microsoft device is designed to allow developers to write code to manage Tokens in a blockchain agnostic way.

American tech giant Microsoft has won a blockchain-related patent for techniques for implementing a cross-chain token management system.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) granted the patent to Microsoft's subsidiary, Microsoft Technology Licensing, on Tuesday.

Filed in February 2019, the patent describes a “ledger-independent token service” or a software service that allows individuals and organizations to create and manage tokens across multiple networks and ledger platforms. dispersed.

Examples of such platforms in the patent application include the main blockchain platform Ethereum, IBM-backed Hyperledger Fabric, JPMorgan's enterprise blockchain platform, Quorum, R3 Corda, and Chain Core.

The described computing system aims to provide users with one or more “patterns of tokens”, with each “pattern of tokens” corresponding to a type of physical or digital asset. A ledger-less token service designed to act as a single interface to manage the lifecycle of tokens across multiple blockchains, allowing developers to write code to transact and manage tokens “in accordance with undefined way the underlying distributed ledger network”.
